10th International Conference on Railway History

Alcázar de San Juan, June 24–25–26, 2026
Great Hall of the Alcázar de San Juan Town Hall

The territory that today makes up the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha has witnessed the evolution and development of railways since their earliest days of operation. In fact, part of the Madrid-Aranjuez railway—the second line to be built on the Iberian Peninsula, which will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2026—ran through the municipality of Seseña in the province of Toledo. Therefore, this region has a very significant railway history, which will be recognized through the celebration of this 10th Conference in the city of Alcázar de San Juan, where railways have been essential to economic and social development. Today, the city is one of the most important railway hubs on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Iberian Association of Railway History, whose primary purpose is historical research, is organizing this 10thth Conference on Railway History, continuing the international focus that has distinguished previous editions.

The10th Conference includes a special session on Railways in Castilla-La Mancha, covering a wide range of research topics. The Conference on Railway History is made possible thanks to the support of the Alcázar de San Juan City Council, the city hosting this edition, which remains firmly committed to the history and future of this mode of transportation. In addition, thanks to the commitment of the Spanish Railway Foundation and its Railway History Program—an institution that has been promoting historical railway research from all thematic perspectives and has played a fundamental role in the conception and organization of previous conferences since its inception.

With this first call for papers, the Iberian Association of Railway History announces the list of thematic sessions and the opening of abstract submissions for the10th Conference on Railway History.
