10th International Congress of Railway History

Alcázar de San Juan,  24-25-26, june, 2026
Assembly Hall of the Alcázar de San Juan Town Hall

The territory that today forms the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha has witnessed the evolution and development of the railway throughout the State since its early years of implementation. In fact, part of the route of the Madrid-Aranjuez Railway, the second line on the peninsula, which will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2026, ran through the municipal area of the town of Seseña in the province of Toledo. Therefore, it is a territory with a very significant railway past that we want to recognize through the celebration of this 10th Congress in the city of Alcázar de San Juan, a town where the railway has been crucial for its economic and social development, being one of the most important railway nodes on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Iberian Association of Railway History, which has historical research  as  one  of  its  fundamental   purposes,  has  decided to organize the 10th

Congress of Railway History, maintaining the international character that has been present in all previous editions.

This 10th Congress dedicates a specific session to the Railway in Castilla-La Mancha and proposes a wide range of research topics, with the aim of continuing to expand the historical knowledge of the railway. For its realization, the 10th Congress of Railway History has the support of the Town Hall of Alcázar de San Juan, a city that hosts this new edition and maintains a firm commitment to the history and future of this mode of transport, and the Spanish Railways Foundation, through its Railway History Program, an institution that has been promoting historical railway research from all thematic perspectives and has played a fundamental role in the conception and organization of previous congresses since its inception.
