An agreement has been signed between the Alcázar de San Juan City Council, the Spanish Railways Foundation, and ASIHF for the 10th Congress on Railway History

On January 27, 2026, an agreement was signed at the Alcázar de San Juan City Hall, presided over by Mayor Rosa Melchor Quiralte, between that institution, the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE), represented by Francisco Polo Muriel, and the Iberian Association of Railway History (ASIHF), represented by its president, Miguel Muñoz Rubio, to hold the 10th Congress of Railway History on June 24, 25, and 26.

By hosting this conference, the City Council is fulfilling one of its main objectives: preserving and promoting the town’s railway heritage and highlighting the contribution this mode of transportation has made to the town since the first rail services were established in the city in 1854. The FFE is doing the same, since among

Among its goals is the promotion of history; after all, it has been organizing and promoting these events since 1998. And ASIH, for its part, fulfills one of its main tasks, which is to bring together, every three years, researchers whose primary focus is the history of railroads.

This is not the first time that the city of Alcázarde San Juan has hosted an event of this kind, but there is every reason to believe that this will be the most important one yet. At the 10th Congress, whose honorary committee is chaired by Mayor Rosa Melchor Quiralte herself, some 100 papers have been submitted by researchers from dozens of European and Latin American universities, covering topics as diverse as social history, the relationship between railroads and cities, and Ibero-American railroads. It is worth noting that the first session will focus on the origins, evolution, and development of the railroad in Castilla-La Mancha, featuring a significant number of researchers from the region, and that, for the first time, the conference will have a (virtual) satellite venue in Mexico. The conference has a website (https://asihf.org/xcongreso/) where all relevant information is available.
