The Birth and Evolution of European-
-Railways: Historical Issues and Lessons for Today
The International Association for Railway History will hold its 10th International Conference in Paris on November 21 under the title “The Birth and Evolution of European Railways: Historical Issues and Lessons for Today.” The event is intended to commemorate the bicentennial of the world’s first railway line, which connected the British towns of Stockton and Darlington.
In doing so, the IRHA aims to stimulate ongoing debate and restore the railroad to its rightful place at the center of contemporary discourse, just as it was two centuries ago. The conference will feature a dozen of Europe’s leading railway historians from countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain. Among them are our two vice presidents, Jordi Martí Henneberg and Ana Cardoso de Matos.
The conference is organized into six thematic sessions covering various topics, as shown in the program.
