O principal objetivo das ferrovias brasileiras no transcurso temporal (s\u00e9culos XIX e XX) era ligar os portos \u00e0s \u00e1reas de produ\u00e7\u00e3o, priorizando a economia. Assim, a ferrovia, ao interligar cidades aos portos conferiu impulso \u00e0 centralidade regional, ao promover a fluidez ao transporte dos produtos agr\u00edcolas e de mat\u00e9rias-primas exportados para a Europa. J\u00e1 na escala intraurbana, a ferrovia \u00e9 um marco na hist\u00f3ria das cidades, pois, n\u00e3o exigia apenas os trilhos e a esta\u00e7\u00e3o, mas uma s\u00e9rie de equipamentos e altera\u00e7\u00f5es no uso do solo que modificam a morfologia das cidades e sua din\u00e2mica socioecon\u00f4mica. No Nordeste brasileiro, a Ferrovia Great Western Railway Company of Brazil atinge a cidade de Campina Grande em 1907. Tal fato representa um marco na hist\u00f3ria da cidade, pois tanto h\u00e1 altera\u00e7\u00f5es na sua morfologia, quanto impulsiona a centralidade regional na rede urbana brasileira. As quest\u00f5es centrais que norteiam a pesquisa s\u00e3o: i) Qual a import\u00e2ncia da ferrovia para a expans\u00e3o da rede urbana regional? ii) Quais as altera\u00e7\u00f5es provocadas pelo equipamento t\u00e9cnico na morfologia urbana de Campina Grande? Assim tem-se como prop\u00f3sito analisar as implica\u00e7\u00f5es da Ferrovia Great Western &#8211; ramal Campina Grande -, tanto na escala intra como interurbana. The case of Estrada de Ferro Araraquarense (19th-20th centuries)<br \/><\/i><br \/><\/b>This paper will present the Estrada de Ferro Araraquarense, in Brazil, in a historical perspective. In 1885 the first train station of this railway line was inaugurated in the city of Araraquara; it was the beginning of a railway branch that made part of the development of the S\u00e3o Paulo State western region, known as Sert\u00e3o Paulista. The growth of this railway can explain the mobility role in the organization of an entire region through either the development of the municipal divisions, or the industrial advancement. The success of this kind of undertaking was directly linked to the necessity of transportation of goods, people and knowledge. Thus, the Estrada de Ferro Araraquarense made part of a series of strategies to ensure the economic growth and the territorial expansion of a part of the S\u00e3o Paulo hinterland. The railway devaluation started in the middle of the 20th century, after the highways advent, and it provided some financial difficulties to the railway sector on regional and national scales, which made the companies prioritize the train use to transport goods. The study of this history is a kind of interdisciplinary research, which requires the introduction of several approaches and push the investigation to contain sources from urban, economic, technological and business history. Therefore, the study of this railway development has a very close relationship to the land clearing of S\u00e3o Paulo State unknown region between the 19th and 20th centuries. Sin embargo varios de los proyectos de ampliaci\u00f3n de dicha red se han visto truncados o modificados debido a m\u00faltiples razones. La presente comunicaci\u00f3n pretende analizar dos de los modelos de red que jam\u00e1s han sido implementados: el plan de metros del a\u00f1o 1966 y el pla director d&#8217;infraestructures 2009-2015. En dichos planes se propone la creaci\u00f3n de redes ferroviarias en donde prima la intermodalidad y la conectividad global del conjunto del sistema. La recopilaci\u00f3n y an\u00e1lisis evolutivo en SIG de una serie hist\u00f3rica de mapas y planos, permitir\u00e1 valorar la influencia del ferrocarril en su ordenaci\u00f3n y expansi\u00f3n urbana.<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El conjunto de ciudades estudiadas se distribuyen por todo el territorio espa\u00f1ol. Se han seleccionado b\u00e1sicamente los municipios que en alg\u00fan momento han superado los 10.000 habitantes, con un m\u00ednimo de dos por provincia. Tambi\u00e9n se han incluido todos los puertos dotados de estaci\u00f3n as\u00ed como ciudades en cruces de v\u00edas relevantes, como por ejemplo Monforte de Lemos. En conjunto se va a disponer de unos 70 municipios para este estudio.<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Este acopio de informaci\u00f3n cartogr\u00e1fica va a permitir una descripci\u00f3n innovadora sobre la evoluci\u00f3n morfol\u00f3gica de las ciudades que en Espa\u00f1a contaron ya con ferrocarril durante el siglo XIX y que por consiguiente son susceptibles de un estudio a largo plazo. La estaci\u00f3n ha sido un n\u00facleo que ha irradiado actividad, mientras que el tendido ferroviario ha condicionado la expansi\u00f3n de las ciudades. Se trata de un tema de gran actualidad ya que la nueva red de alta velocidad se debate a la entrada de cada ciudad entre estaciones perif\u00e9ricas o centrales.
